It is safe to say that football is a serious matter in Portugal, commanding in the people an almost religious fervour.
The Euro 2016 victory was an emotional pinnacle for the country with the resulting outburst of joy constituting a precious escape valve for pressures built over two decades of recession. Given the feat, the national team itself assumed a tangible image for the transcendence, pride and stability of a long-striving nation. Portugal, in the end and against all odds, won.
FLOPPY STONEHENGE is an installation dedicated to the experience of victory - a circular oracle comprising an array of 11 giant inflatable avatars (the kind with bodies and arms flailing to the rhythm of fans blowing underneath), along with spotlights projecting the national colours and loudspeakers blaring the roar of a cheering crowd. It is as well fitted with physical sensors in order to activate its inner space only once people are inside (otherwise remaining idle). The emotional reference for the system's functioning is the moment when Eder scores the winning goal for Portugal in the championship's final - somehow channelling this overwhelming instant shall make the success of FLOPPY STONEHENGE.
In practical terms, the setup will imply the rental of equipment - wind turbines + respective Air Dancers (as the inflatable avatars are known); spotlights + lighting controller; outdoors loudspeakers. Below are listed the approximate daily costs for the installation, it being of scalable dimension, and therefore adaptable to the resources made available by the festival:
680€ = 11 Air Dancers (62€ p/ Air Dancer) - this cost shall be potentially negotiable, given the rental volume
250€ = 4 powered outdoors loudspeakers (125€ p/ pair)
209€ = 11 DMX-compatible spotlights (19€ p/ spotlight) - this cost shall be potentially negotiable, given the rental volume
26.10€ = 1 DMX lighting controller
25€ = 1 DMX-compatible fog machine
Approx. 1200€ p/ day for a complete FLOPPY STONEHENGE (oracle w/ the 11 Air Dancers)
Approx. 650€ p/ day for a half FLOPPY STONEHENGE (oracle w/ only 6 Air Dancers)
